Butterbox Babies
The shocking true story of Lila and William Young, owners of the “Ideal Maternity Home” for unwed mothers. Resented by the medical community, during the 1930s, for purporting to operate as medical doctors, this intense character-driven drama follows midwife Lila, as she advocates for unwed mothers and supports them through pregnancy. However, the institution falls under scrutiny when a routine delivery results in the deaths of two patients, and it becomes clear that things are not what they seem. Soon, the Youngs are under investigation for poorly caring for infants, burying babies in their backyard in local butter boxes, while healthy children are sold to childless couples in New York for untold sums of money.
Based on the lurid bestseller "Butterbox Babies" by Bette Cahill.
